K Umapathy (21 Feb 1950 - 4 Apr 2017) was an Indian Carnatic musician, Nadaswaram maestro, vocalist. He was popularly known as "Nadaswara vidwan Sikkal Umapathy". Tamilnadu government awarded "Rajarathina" in 2008 from Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.Karunanidhi (29-01-2008). Personal life Sikkal K.Umapathy was born on 21-Feb-1950, in Chithambaram, India, to a musically affluent family. Umapathy started learning nadaswaram at the age of 10. At the age of 15, his father passed away. Since the pressure of supporting his family fell on him, he dropped out of school. He married Ms. Lalitha whose father (Mr.Sundarrajan pillai) is also a well known nadaswaram player in Tirumalairayanpattinam, Karaikal . He has three sons and one daughter.
